KALAMAZOO FRIENDS OF RECREATION

Our mission is to support the City of Kalamazoo’s recreational programs and help improve its parks. We envision better quality of life for the residents of Kalamazoo through recreation. 

We grant scholarships to at-risk youth to support their participation in City of Kalamazoo recreation programs and we help gather resources to enhance the parks and trails in the City of Kalamazoo.

We grant scholarships to at-risk youth to support their participation in City of Kalamazoo recreational programs. 

Any child who is eligible and has a letter showing they qualify for the free or reduced lunch at school is eligible for a scholarship. Scholarships are worth 50% off program fees up to a limit of $400 per child per year.

There are two documents required to apply:
1) Kalamazoo Friends of Recreation Scholarship Application;
2) Letter from Kalamazoo Public Schools that verifies the child’s qualification for free or reduced lunch.

 

Enhancing the Quality of Life through Recreation

Kalamazoo Friends of Recreation helps support recreational programs through providing scholarships, helping with park improvements, and funding the Youth Development Coordinator position through Kalamazoo Parks and Recreation.

Park Improvements

Fundraising to support improvements to city parks such as Bronson Park, the KRVT Downtown Connection, and the master plan development for Milham Park & Blanche Hull Preserve.

Youth Development

Kalamazoo Parks and Recreation can keep a full-time Youth Development Coordinator through the support of Kalamazoo Friends of Recreation.
